* Metric Definition and Relevance: A raster dataset representing density of trails in the Southern California Region.  

* Creation Method: This dataset represents the density of trails across the landscape, measured as km/km2 of trails. The information was derived from the OpenStreetMap data and includes footways, cycleways, pedestrian paths, service roads, paths, tracks, and unclassified features. Based on local knowledge, inclusion of these different categories was required to capture the majority of popular hiking destinations including authorized and unauthorized routes.
